Alternate Title: It really is a Small World After All
This is something we always say to ourselves. It seems no matter where we go, strange and unusual things happen. It happened again tonight.
We went to a great performance put on by a group called the Swinging Tenors. They were very good – a lot of oldies and big band sounds, the old standards. One of the singers looked familiar and, more so, sounded familiar. By the end of the performance, we had convinced ourselves that we knew him. We had danced to his big band many times at Foxwoods back in the day when they had a live swing dance every Sunday night.
After the show, I was able to talk to him. Yes, we were right, it was him. We got to talking to him and he now lives in RI. And the best news yet is that the band is still working together. But, he agreed that there were not many venues that had live music and fewer that wanted the swing/big band sound.
If this is where the story ended, The title would have been It really is a Small World After All. But, there is a bit more.
We immediately thought of a local restaurant that has just opened in our hometown. It has been bought be a group of musicians and their goal is to have live music often. We know the booking agent, so we offered to see if we could put them in touch with each other.
You can’t take us any place – we always do things that are unusual!
