The First "Real" Trip of the Year

This weekend may be it - the first "real" trip of the year. We have done the truck stop, the RV repair shop, now it is time to do the campground thing!! We will be traveling to a nearby campground for the weekend. It isn't far, but we will be traveling in the RV towing the car. The weather will be spring-like, or at least not winter-like.

I am excited - this is the start of a good thing - many more trips in the RV.

And Away We Go

Well yesterday we left the car to have the baseplate installed.

Today we arrived at the dealer at about 8:30 AM and something like 8 degrees F with the wind blowing. The service manager had me turn the MH around and brought the car up behind.

Then begin the adventure of attaching the hitch to the motor home and the car. Normally this should be easy - so he says. BUT this 20 pound piece of metal is very cold!!! Trying to remove and insert little pins, wiring and safety cables with gloves on does not work; so off come the gloves.

Well we finaly get the car hooked up; tested the brake lights and turn signals -- all A-OK.

And Away We Went -- Drove home with no problem; just had this little red car tailgating all the way ;->
We parked on the road ; unhooked without any problem - temperature must have been up to 12 or so by now.

I think this is going to be OK.

Memories

This morning we had to drive our car - soon to be our toad (or is it towed!) - to the RV dealership for installation of all the necessary hardware to allow us to use it as a tow vehicle. As we have never had an RV before and never towed a vehicle before, this was all brand new. So what could cause memories to flood my mind as I drove there.

Nothing to do with RVing. Back a few years ago, I used to drive the very same road each and everyday. Those days seem like they were yesterday and in a different lifetime - all at the some time!! While she was in high school, I drove that same highway with my daughter to get her to the bus stop (some 25 minutes from home) or, if we were late, all the way to school - about an hour. Although she slept most of time, we shared this time as special moments. And both of us look back on our commute with a fondness in our hearts. She has grown into a wonderfully talented woman. But, for just a brief moment today she was that child in school, traveling with me up the highway.

Great memories!!

As for the toad, I am sure it is fine and the RV and its vehicle will bring us many more fond memories to ponder at some future time.

Until then, I will cherish the memories that flooded me this morning. Thanks, Jen.

RV In the Driveway

When we first got the RV - just over 4 months ago, I thought it was wonderful that it would be stored right in our driveway. We are former boaters, and getting the boat ready was always a hassle - going to the boat and coming back for forgotten items or those items that just didn't fit in the car. Now, mind you, it was just a 10 minute ride, but it was a pain!! So, now I thought, just a trip or two or three in and out of the house and we would be set. And, for the trips we have taken, that is the case. No problem whatsoever.

But, it is winter now, with cold, freezing temperatures and Snow!! Yuck!! No RVing right now. But, I see the RV whenever I look out the windows. I see the RV as I come and go to work, for errands, or other activities. It is just THERE. I feel like it is taunting me. In a sing-song sort of way. You know: Nah-nah-nah. I am here and you can't use me. It's too cold and I am here. It is most annoying. I feel that someday soon, I have to stop it. The only way that I can see is to take it out and go camping. Soon, maybe, real soon!!
