The last entry to this blog was in October. I am sure that makes everyone think that we took the RV off the road and stayed inside for the New England winter. That is not exactly true. We did go to Normandy Farms over Thanksgiving 2007 weekend. We had a wonderful time visiting with family and just doing the camping thing.
That wasn’t enough though; we were at NF again for New Years’ Eve. What a wonderful time. Buffet dinner dance – great DJ, heated indoor pool and hot tub. It was great sitting in the hot tub and watching the snow outside. Oh wait, that was about 1 hour before we were going to drive home!! We listened to the forecast and the forecasters and planned our exit to ensure that we would not be on the road during the worst of the storm. Go figure, we only had a 90-minute trip and the first half was in the height of the storm. Maybe the next time we won’t listen to the forecasters!!
So we drove the RV home on January 1, 2008 and parked it in the driveway. We have moved it closer to the house a few times. We have been onboard to clean it, check supplies, and just sit in it – called “winter cabin fever” – imagining where we would be going once spring got here.
Last week, I was just about convinced that Spring was just around the corner. And BAM!! those forecasters came out of the woodwork. Nothing much they said. Only an inch or 2 they said. Well, again, they were wrong. Now we didn’t have the blizzard of the century, but it was at least 6 inches and needed to be shoveled. Boy, that was depressing: Spring isn’t just around the corner.
Today is February 25, 2008, the middle of winter in this area. But, it doesn’t feel it. Oh, the temperature is cold and the snow is still on the ground and the RV is still stored in the driveway. So, why does it feel like Spring is here. I just realized that I have one more weekend – only 1 weekend- to get everything ready for our first real trip of 2008!! The trip that was so far in the future, the one that we thought about during most of the cold winter, is just one weekend away. The summer clothes have to come out of storage, the groceries have to be checked and bought, and the trip routes have to be finalized. All this because there is just one more weekend between today and the day that we leave for Florida!! Ah, at last, warmth, sun and Spring Training. The sun and warmth may not be there when we get there, but Spring Training games will be underway and that is what counts.
So, I can’t make plans for next weekend. I will be washing and packing and doing some grocery shopping. All things that I hate at other times of the year. But, next weekend I will be doing them with a smile on my face.
