July 4th –and The Hawk

Well DW and I are taking a close –by vacation this weekend. We arrived at Burlingame State park and got settled in. We started a fire so we could cook supper outside and we were just sitting there reading.

We were also watching this beetle wander around; first one way and then another. Back and forth; it actually looked like it had a leg missing, but I didn’t pick it up to investigate.

Well after a while it attracted the attention of a small black bird. The beetle became a snack. The bid was standing not more than 3 feet from use enjoying the snack.

Well that lasted for something less than a minute – what we believe to be a hawk came out of the trees, grabbed the bird and flew back into the trees. So now the hawk had a snack! Most interesting is that the arrival and departure of the hawk had to be measured in at best a few seconds!
