First RV Trip of 2007

Last Sunday, we took our first RV trip of the year. Yes it is February – and a cold one at that – and we do live in the Northeast. So, how could such a trip be a good one? Well, it was spur of the moment. We just decided to start up the RV and drive up the highway a bit. Sounds ok, doesn’t it? Turns out our destination was a truck stop!! In the 3 and ½ months that we have been RVing, we have never been to a truck stop. So, we decide to exercise the RV and drive to a truck stop about 20 miles away. The truck stop was clean and the coffee was good. We took on some gas and checked the air in the tires. We checked the prices for parking and hope they are representative of other truck stops that we may use on future – longer – trips. And last, we re-calibrated the compass.

After gas, air, coffee and re-calibration, we came back home. Total time of the trip was about 90 minutes. But, it was wonderful!! We were in the RV; we were on the highway; and we were doing what we have come to love most – traveling in our own motorhome.

Even though the weather is now worse and it seems that the cold winter will not end, we are planning better and longer trips – to resort RV parks and state parks, to Florida, Niagara Falls, New Hampshire and Cape Cod – Maybe even a trip to New York City to stay at Liberty Island and dance the time away at an Argentine Dance Festival. We have scheduled trips to 2 Cajun/Zydeco Festivals, as well. But, with all of that in the future, this trip last Sunday was still special – we actually took the trip – it was not just in the planning stages - like all the others!!

As the snow falls outside and the ground ices over, I sit here planning the trips for the rest of the year – and enjoying every minute of the planning – but not as much as those 90 minutes spent in the RV this past Sunday.
